The invention of the Kevlar vest is another thing that is credited to a woman. Kevlar, also known as the bulletproof vest is the invention of Stephanie Kwolek, who researched with chemical compounds and managed to invent Kevlar.

She patented it back in 1966, and she is credited with not just inventing Kevlar, but a whole host of other useful things. She had a largely successful 40 year career with the DuPont Company, and has also been inducted into the Hall of Fame for Inventors.
