What can we even say about Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn in ‘The Lord of the Rings’? He might have been the best suited character in the whole series. After so many years of him playing Aragorn, it might be difficult for us to imagine him in any other role but he had sure proven that he has versatility.

But if he is so perfect than how come he wasn’t cast for the role at the first place? Yes, that’s true. Peter Jackson had originally cast Stuart Townsend to play Aragorn but the director later realized that Townsend was too young. He was looking for somebody older, a man who had the perfect look for an ancient wanderer and yet is able to get all the things right. And so, Viggo Mortensen boarded the ship. And are we glad that he did!

The whole process took a long time and Viggo was the last cast member to fly to New Zealand to join the other members. Even though the long term commitment was something she wasn’t ready for, he still went on with it and managed to give us the best character representation in the whole series.

“All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost,
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.”
