Look at the clue to find the answer, as it will be the same part of speech as the given clue. You should be able to alternate the answer and the clue in a sentence.
If the meaning of the sentence does not change too drastically, you are on the right track to getting the answer.
To test this strategy, think of a sentence that you can input the clue in. Next, you need to work backwards to form other words that would make sense when used in the sentence. For instance, the clue is “coming off the boat.”
You need to use a word to replace the sentence without changing its meaning. That word would be “ashore.”
