3) Leprosy (3 of 10)
Leprosy was a disease of the past, but it has woken back up from the dead. However, you would be surprised to know that around 9 cases of the disease had been reported in Florida. Prior to this, the cases had usually been in between 2 and 12 in a year.
The outbreak was thought to be a result of construction and land development. This forced the natural disease carriers, or armadillos, to come in contact with other people.
The disease spreads between humans with contact from feces or blood of the carriers, also known as armadillos. These are the only animals to be known to have this unique bacteria strain causing the disease within humans.
Luckily, you can very well stay away from these armadillos and the fact that leprosy is a rare disease infecting only a few people within the country is also a disarming bit of information.
