He played goalie for Real Madrid Castilla, but his career was terminated prematurely due to a serious car accident that smashed his spine and permanently weakened his lower legs. While in the hospital, the nurse gave him a guitar so he could keep his hands busy and strong, thus discovering his musical talents. After his rehab, he went on to earn his law degree at the Complutense University of Madrid, but ultimately went on to pursue music and singing, and became one of the top selling musicians of all time with more than 2,600 gold and platinum records certified.
