Requirements for massage therapist certification vary by state. Some states require 1000 hours of training in the field, while others only require 330 hours. Massage therapy students typically complete the training within 2 years, and some students only train for a few weeks before becoming licensed. After you complete your training, you may also have to sit for a formal licensing exam.

Some schools offer online massage therapy classes. If you enroll in online courses, you will probably still have to complete an externship before you receive your massage therapy degree or certificate.
