The one thing that made Snapchat really popular, very fast, was targeting teenagers, who wanted an app where they wouldn’t find their parents, and Snapchat offered them that. It gave teenagers the freedom with disappearing photos, and a user base that predominantly contained teenagers. The app matured quite quickly as well, reaching 10 million users in its first year.
Snapchat didn’t just rest on their laurels, they come out with new upgrades, like Stories, which allowed users to string together snaps and let their followers see their ‘story’.
This update really matured Snapchat and turned it into a major platform, which had its own social context and language.
