The circular saw was also invented by a woman, named Tabitha Babbitt. In 1810, she observed some men cutting trees with a two-handled saw, and it required both men to pull back and forth. She saw that due to the placement of the “teeth” in the blade, the cuts made in the tree only went in one direction.
She realized that the men were wasting huge amounts of time and energy using this saw, and decided to invent the circular saw, and even attached it to her spinning wheel to let it turn. Her design was a resounding success, and was used in numerous saw mills. It is still in operation today, and is rightfully one of the best tools ever invented.
