DMX, whose legal name is Earl Simmons, filed a petition for chapter 11 bankruptcy a few years ago. At the time, he was behind on child support by $1.24 million and defaulted on a $21,000 car loan.
As a result of his large child support arrears, DMX was unable to obtain a passport to perform overseas. His bankruptcy lawyers stated that they hoped filing for debt relief would help DMX get his career back on track.
