Philip Seymour Hoffman won the Oscar for Best Actor in 2005, for his role in “Capote”, edging out competition from the other nominees, which included big names like Joaquin Phoenix for “Walk the Line”, Terence Howard for “Hustle and Flow”, David Stratharin for “Good Night and Good Luck”, and Heath Ledger for “Brokeback Mountain”.

Hoffman delivered a fine performance for his role as Truman Capote, but many thought that Ledger delivered an astounding performance in “Brokeback Mountain”, and deserved to win it more than Hoffman that year.
