The Ghost won two academy awards for the Best Original Screenplay and the Best Supporting Actress. The movie was also nominated for the Best Picture. The reason why people believe that the movie did not deserve the award is that Goldberg had fierce competition with Annette Bening, Diane Ladd, Lorraine Bracco, and Mary McDonnell, who are great actresses.
You are completely wrong about Marisa Tomei….unless you thought her oscar nods for In the Bedroom and The Wrestler were undeserving to. And by the way, the oscar is awarded for a singular performance….whether or not the subsequent material is on par is immaterial.
