Jennifer Hudson won the award for best performance by an actress in a supporting role for
Dreamgirls. Hudson’s performance consisted more of singing than acting. The part that she did play was not Oscar worthy and her competitors Cate Blanchett (Notes on a Scandal, Rinko Kikuchi (Babel),) and Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine) gave better performances.

You are completely wrong about Marisa Tomei….unless you thought her oscar nods for In the Bedroom and The Wrestler were undeserving to. And by the way, the oscar is awarded for a singular performance….whether or not the subsequent material is on par is immaterial.
