The name March Madness does not actually belong to the NCAA tournament itself. It was first used to describe the Illinois High school basketball tournament and in 1939, NCAA began advertising their own event using the same name. Before you knew it, the name became the second official name of the tournament. Brent Musburger is given the credit to make the term popular by his constant use of it during sports casting. The name is also used to describe the crazy atmosphere that the tournament brings along with it. All the pumped up fans, crazy betting both legal and illegal and a lot of basketball for fans to enjoy!
