The Question: “Americans nowadays are expecting higher monthly premiums, which mean more money out of their pockets for health insurance. As President, what are you going to do to control health care costs, and what will the average patient be paying out of their pocket?”
The health care system of America is larger than the economy of France! It is a complex part of America’s economy, and in order to reform it there will have to be lower prices for health care, while improvements in quality and access at the same time.
Many candidates prefer enforcing price controls, but will reduce the quality and quantity of services. The only way real reform is going to come is by improving transparency in the insurance market, which will encourage customers to find the best value. Consumers shouldn’t be forced to make complex choices on their treatments and individual health care providers.
