6) Bob Gibson (6/10)
Gibson was a beast of a pitcher and was so good in the 1968 season that it was called as the ‘Year of the Pitcher’, in which the St. Louis Cardinals pitcher recorded a 1.12 ERA to win the Cy Young Award. Gibson had 2 main pitches in his armory – a fastball that was up and in, and a curveball that buckled past a hitter’s knees.
He was basically unhittable, and the MLB decided to change all that to encourage the offensive side of baseball. They lowered the pitching mound by 5 inches after Gibson’s astonishing season and brought it down from 15 inches to 10 inches in the 1969 season.
