Hillary Clinton was very patriotic and tried to join the Marines when she was 27, but was brutally rejected by them. She actually visited the US Marine recruiting base in Arkansas, and requested permission to join, since she was very interested in the military.
However, the recruiter, who was also in his early 20s, gave a very harsh and brutal response to Clinton, by telling her that,
“You’re too old, you can’t see, and you’re a woman. Maybe ‘the dogs’ (the Army) would take you.”
That was the point when Clinton decided she would find another way to serve her country; and in hindsight, her decision has been spot on.
