The 90s was the era of rock music and there were so many rock bands emerging at the time, that many didn’t even make sense including 98 Degrees. Furthermore, when the band emerged, there were so many other bands rocking turtlenecks and cargo pants that they never really made any impression on anyone.
Plus it was the time when N Sync and the Backstreet Boys were popular and people ended up comparing 98 Degrees to them, which always ended up with them being not so impressive.
