Churchill Downs, located in south Louisville, is a Thoroughbred racetrack that opened in 1875 and hosts the Kentucky Derby every year.
It holds a capacity of 120,000 onlookers.
The name Churchill, was in honor of John and Henry Churchill, who leased 80 acres of land to their nephew, Colonel Meriwether Lewis Clark Jr, grandson of explorer William Clark.
